On September 11, 2023, the Merit Cross Country team traveled to Huntington State Park to race in the dust and heat whilst circumnavigating the Huntington Reservoir for their 5k course.
The middle school team showed out well with Gabe Hopkins placing 1st for the boys and Taylor Gambler being our top girl finisher at 15th in a deep field of strong girls.
The high school teams relished the opportunity to race with other 1A and 2A schools where they would be able to compete for the team titles.
The boys team ran first and had three top ten finishers in their 3rd place team performance with Joseph Wiseman finishing 10th, Samuel Fair 8th, and Bryan Mellor 6th.
In tight competition, the girls emerged triumphant as every point from the scoring quartet of Stella Sutherland, Ella Jay, Taylie Jenkins, and Lorelei Hansen counted in their two-point margin of victory to secure 1st place at the meet as a team.
The girls team is now 3 for 3 in their appearances at the Stewart Foster Invitational, winning each time they've entered!
